This no-frills compilation draws material from two albums previously released on Lionel Hampton's Who's Who in Jazz label, both of which were recorded at the 1978 MIDEM convention in Paris, three tracks from Chick and Lionel Live at MIDEM (21016), featuring the pianist and vibraphonist with drummer Oliver Jackson and others, plus subsequent overdubs by trumpeter Al Vicutti and trombonist Ron Moss, and two from Lionel Hampton Live at MIDEM, Vol. I (21015), on which Hampton (but not Corea) was accompanied by Oliver Jackson's orchestra. The album cover features the words "Chick Corea & Friends" with "Lionel Hampton" in much smaller print underneath, which presumably is supposed to alert the potential buyer that the album contains tracks by Hampton without Corea's presence. Corea turns in a fluid performance, especially on "Moment's Notice," and Hampton is his usual exuberant self, but fans might better be directed to the more complete sets found on the albums from which this one was compiled.
