AllMusic Review by

During its heyday in the 1970s, the Onyx label did jazz a great service by reissuing obscure bop sessions from the 1940s and '50s. This LP, which focuses on musicians based in Los Angeles during the era, is particularly strong for it features the underrated tenor great Teddy Edwards in a quintet with trombonist Herbie Harper and pianist Hampton Hawes, has six songs from a forgotten quartet starring Vivian Garry on vocals and bass, guitarist Arvin Garrison and pianist George Handy, adds four pieces from a quartet featuring pianist Dodo Marmarosa and tenor-saxophonist Lucky Thompson and concludes with two songs by Marmarosa's trio; "I've Got News for You" was Dodo's only recorded vocal. Overall this LP is filled with timeless if long-forgotten music that will be difficult to find.
