Celtic Nocturnes celebrates the roots of the nocturne, which was created by 19th century Irish composer John Field. Field's improvisational, emotional solo piano works inspired Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, and Debussy in their time, and composer/pianist Scott Hitzik today. Celtic Nocturnes' other main influence is 18th century bard and harper Turlough O'Carolan, whose lilting, melodic style can be heard on tracks like "Fairy Queen," "Carolan's Fancy," and "Carolan's Concerto."
