This two-disc set of re-recorded Mostly Autumn songs replaces the single-disc Heroes Never Die compilation, which previously served as the definitive introduction to or overview of the band. That album becomes disc one here; it is accompanied by a second disc spanning the band's six-year career. For longtime fans, the album will offer a stylistic counterpoint. Founder Bryan Josh felt that some of Mostly Autumn's older songs weren't taken far enough originally -- hence, the re-recorded and newly tweaked arrangements that appear here. But Josh also wanted the album to introduce his band to curious new fans. Therefore, Catch the Spirit functions as a survey of Mostly Autumn's marriage of folk, progressive, and Celtic influences to driving pop arrangements that recall Fleetwood Mac, Loreena McKennitt, and Fairport Convention.
