The Renegades were one of the many second tier British beat bands active in England during the mid-'60s. This Birmingham band released a number of unsuccessful singles for thePolydor label but then found real success when they moved to Europe. The Renegades managed to have singles in the number one position on both the Finland and German charts as well as headline tours through Scandinavia. The band released two albums on the Danish Hansa label: Cadillac in 1965 and Take a Heart in 1966. This Rock-In-Beat release compiles all of the songs from both of the albums together with some early single tracks on one compact disc. This is the first time any material by the Renegades has been released on this format and the CD contains virtually every track recorded by this band. For the most part the songs on this album are band-written originals written and performed in an R&B style of the day. The CD also contains the bands' only hit, the song "Cadillac" from 1965, and the song "Take a Heart" from the second album that became a hit for the band the Sorrows in England. The set also contains a number of cover songs originally written by Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, Leiber and Stoller, and other top writers of the mid-'60s. The sound on the CD is superb but the liner notes are very basic and do not give many details on the band. This is a nice collection for any fan of the British beat sound and contains some very rare and sought after material.
