AllMusic Review by

Sensations on the English stage, Layton & Johnstone were also best-sellers among the record racks, though their heavily somber readings of jazz-age standards hasn't translated as well as Eddie Cantor or Al Jolson. Still, this ASV/Living Era collection is the only one available on the duo (it replaced a previous disc by the same label), including their best-known hit ("Bye-Bye, Blackbird") as well as solid readings of many '20s standards: "I Found a Million Dollar Baby (In a Five and Ten Cent Store)," "Little White Lies," "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," "Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries," and "If I Had a Talking Picture With You." One of their best performances ("River, Stay 'Way from My Door") is unfortunately missing, but ASV deserves credit for issuing this historically important disc.
