AllMusic Review by

The Heath Brothers are one of the best known jazz families, three Philadelphia brothers (multi-reed player/composer/arranger Jimmy Heath, bassist Percy Heath, and drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath) who excelled in their music during long careers. This documentary examines each of their lives with excerpts of one of their final concerts together (prior to Percy's death), including contributions from other musicians, writers, and record-label executives. Each of their stories is fascinating, including their struggles against racism and their growth as musicians. One yearns for complete concert performances rather than the frequent detours back to interviews, though this format is typical of jazz documentaries. Well photographed and edited, it is obvious that a lot of care went into the production of this valuable look at the Heath Brothers.
