This LP is an excellent showcase for the underrated bop baritonist Cecil Payne. Accompanied by a sympathetic British rhythm section (pianist Joe Palin, bassist Alan Cooper and drummer Ron Parry), Payne had a rare opportunity during the live session in 1966 to be the only horn and to stretch out on four of his originals (they clock in between 9:18 and 12:05). The waltz "Brookfield Andante" and "The Opener" are highlights of the easily recommended set.
