On this often unlistenable set, the Count Basie Orchestra plays unimaginative arrangements of a dozen Broadway show tunes. Somehow, one does not think of "Mame," "People" and "Hello Young Lovers" as Basie classics, and with good reason. The presence of trumpeter Roy Eldridge is barely felt on this mediocre set.
