Here's an exquisite package of progressive rock guaranteed to please the crowd who likes to go deeper into the genre than Yes, ELP, Asia, and the other usual suspects of the progressive mainstream. Beautifully put together with an eight-page color insert booklet as well as a centerfold photo on the reverse of the DVD cover, this project contains a plethora of extras including bandmembers' profiles, a photo gallery, desktop images, weblinks, a logo, and the obligatory bonus tracks, which are a real treat. The fly-on-the-wall rehearsal moments from a hand-held camera are a rarity in a musical realm where perfection is sought in concert -- off-key practice vocals and a laid-back approach give a unique look at how the concert will be compiled. And the main event does not disappoint. The tension on "Shadows of Fate" take elements of Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers," while "Erosion" and "Outer Limits" offer different perspectives on sounds you've heard before but just can't place because of the unique delivery. Lots of precisely played music with stunning multi-camera sweeps capture the concert hall from many angles and plenty of movement. Considered a "supergroup" of sorts, Neo contain no household names, and even the guest appearances -- Pallas' vocalist Alan Reed and Pendragon's Nick Barrett -- are virtual unknowns to the American Top 40, but the music is terrific, truly bringing art rock to another level as recorded at the Wyspianski Theater in Katowice, Poland. The direction is inspiring as the imagery keeps changing -- corresponding to the music while absorbing the colors that the lighting provides, creating a perfect parallel to the refined sounds coming off the stage. The innovative use of the seven cameras makes this music all the more exciting. Where Greg Lake's Welcome Backstage hits you hard in close to an hour of the veteran performer's music, Neo's Broadcast is a more complex and longer journey -- and just as inviting.
