This collector's CD has 26 different recordings from the 1927-1931 period, all but two originally released by the Broadcast label. Featured are four different British hot dance bands: Harry Bidgood's Broadcasters (who also went under the name of the Riverside Dance Band, the Kentucky Revellers, the Midnight Merrymakers, Nat Lewis' Dance Band, and Lew Sylvia), Victor Vorzanger's Famous Dance Band, Ciro's Club Dance Band, and the Original Havanna Band. Other than trombonist Ted Heath (who is with Bidgood), none of the sidemen are remembered, but the musicianship is excellent, the arrangements swing for the time, and the music is jazzy enough to interest vintage jazz collectors. A worthy project.
