Beyond the Pinch is a ponderous collection of whitecoat techno and hardcore-leaning rave-esque breakbeat. Matt Cogger's has long proven his affection for a leisurely stroll down the road less traveled, and in that respect, Beyond the Pinch is signature Neuropolitique, from its (literally) cheeky cover to the swirling masses of artfully dirtied electronics clogging up well-composed electro, techno, and hardcore-leaning breakbeat circa 1991. Not a particularly standout album in any other respect than its steadfast refusal of popular trends (what, no jungle?), but then that applies to most of Cogger's work. Good not great.
