Mike Bloomfield and friends have always been able to get it together on record, and this effort is one more example of seasoned pros putting out music that appears to magically flow from them. "Big Chief from New Orleans" and "Lights Out" show Bloomfield in a lighter frame of mind. Of course, by this time, the public was generally ignoring his output, which is a shame, because Between a Hard Place and the Ground is well worth seeking out to experience Bloomfield in the later stages of his career.
