Listeners surely can't fault Collectables for its title; anyone forced to choose just ten songs to compile a Beach Boys greatest-hits compilation (and evidently, someone was) would be hard-pressed to find any others that rose as high on the charts or sounded as good as these. The collection skimps a bit on the ballads (only "Surfer Girl" makes the cut), but has plenty of time for summer-day shots like "Fun, Fun, Fun," "California Girls," "Good Vibrations," "I Get Around," and "Wouldn't It Be Nice." As expected, however, the sound quality is quite poor (none of the stereo versions are included), and the brief running time (an anemic 25 minutes) makes this set a poor choice for nearly anyone.
