AllMusic Review by

Robert Folk's Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time bears few similarities to Lee Holdridge's music for the previous film in the fantasy/adventure series, reprising none of the original's themes or motifs; given the extraordinary crapitude of the loincloth epic in question, one could excuse Folk for going on autopilot here, but instead he delivers an imaginative, impassioned score that's far and away the best thing about the movie. A sweeping symphonic score in the same mold as Basil Poledouris' sword-and-sorcery classic Conan the Barbarian, Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time stretches the 96-member Berlin Orchestra to its physical limits, creating a series of vividly heroic themes that achieve just the right balance between triumphant and tongue in cheek. Too smart to dismiss as dumb fun, this is one score that's far better than it has any right to be.
