It's one of the biggest rock & roll clichés: a band breaks up -- in this case it's the northwestern U.S. anti-grunge heroes Sicko -- and the singer moves on to release a bland solo effort. However, Ean Sicko knows how to put out a good pop record. With some assistance from local Seattle scenesters -- including members of the Primate 5, the Fastbacks, Flop and the Posies -- Tales from the Birdbath captures the sound of lighthearted, unpretentious indie rock. The effort is not as explosive as his previous band (only one of the songs has a hint of distortion) but is still an enjoyable swallow.
