AllMusic Review by

Bad Sun Rising, Vol. 2 continues the often-terrific pairing of the Japanese underground and Chicago's indie scene (see also K.K. Null's work with members of Brise-Glace, or Melt Banana's recordings with Jim O'Rourke). Here, bands like Volume Dealers, Ruins, Superunit, and the Boredoms record tracks with Chicago's Steve Albini, who comes out from behind the boards to team up with Zeni Geva on one track. Some of the material is great, some is not-so-great, but the compilation as a whole is very interesting; two notable tracks are Omoide Hatoba's live version of "Mega" (the only track without Albini's recording), and UFO or Die's "Space Wrist," an alternate version of "Hellboat" from Cassette Tape Superstar.
