This comp actually is pretty awesome. Munich Records must be some sort of European licensing way station for American indie folksters and the like, as the dudes that appear here have more connections to the Lone Star State than the entire Bush family. Centro-Matic, the Centro side project South San Gabriel, Denton's noisy Baptist Generals, and Austin roots maestros the Gourds -- all contribute strong stuff. There's also a scary dirge from Johnny Dowd called "Stumble and Fall," the splotchy folk-tronica of Virgil Shaw's "Twisted Layer," and more Texas connections with songwriter Damon Bramblett. Recommended.
