Pianist Dario Boente's second release, Ave Phoenix, was recorded "live" at The New School in New York City in January 2002. It features the Argentinean pianist/composer alongside drummer Victor Jones, percussionist Renato Thoms, and bassist Wayne Batchelor on songs that derive their inspiration from the folk music and tango of Boente's South American roots. This piano trio with percussion has a sound that is clean, uncluttered, and filled with excellent solos and musical ideas. Top picks are the Bill Evans classic "Nardis," Boente's upbeat original "Cheer Up!," and his romantic ballad "The Way I Say Thanks."
