The bongo instruction is limited to the first side, and the gatefold's illustrated instructions are minimal. The charm is in hearing Rodriguez speak. His directions are to the point. Side two is basic big-band material in the style of Enoch Light's Command albums, although it sounds jazzier and more natural. Chuck Sagle, a fine arranger, both integrates and offsets the bongos very well, even with vibraphone, flute, guitar, and other instruments. For the bongo or pop percussion fan, this is a mildly enjoyable record that steadily builds. Secondary instructions may be necessary, however.
