Although Sex Clark Five got off to a great start with its near-classic debut, Strum & Drum!, each of the band's subsequent albums is a little worse than the previous one. Antedium is the group's third album and, although it is inoffensive and occasionally entertaining, there are fewer memorable songs than on the band's earlier efforts, and too many tracks are brief jokes or throwaways. Antedium's more frequent use of effects, particularly reverb, results in a somewhat muddy sound, and the rampant history-buff puns that were once quirky and cool now seem formulaic. The album has enough highlights to make it worth hearing, but a few new ideas couldn't hurt at this point.
