Angels Candles is Maire Breatnach's solo debut and it is a winner and an instant classic. This is a smooth mix of instrumental and vocal compositions, all by Breatnach. Her sound design incorporates traditional and contemporary acoustics and modern electronics. The first seven pieces evoke images of a child's wonder at discovering the stars. Each of the pieces is a bedtime story in and of itself. The latter seven compositions evoke images of life with each one, again, telling its own story. The album is fun, enjoyable, and special. To quote Philip King's liner notes, "Her music is...generous, warm and fun." This is a great disc and it qualifies Breatnach as a peer of Kim Robertson, Enya, and Loreena McKennitt -- all exquisite vocalists and virtuoso instrumentalists.
