Andromeda is the kind of release that's easy to miss the first few times. After a while the classical themes that pervade the various pieces start to work their way into your system, and Doerr's delicate and tender yet persistent playing on piano, keyboards and synthesizer begin to shine. Each piece carries with it a particular inspiration, from a place or time such as "Dawn Through the Mist" or a personal tale to tell like the introspective "Tete-A-Tete." The most dynamic piece is the title cut, also the name of the sleek 140-foot sailboat pictured on the cover, a successful attempt to capture the sailing experience in music, complete with a strong sense of motion and of occasionally crashing waves, heard to full advantage in this all-digital recording.
