This is certainly one of those times when the lofty statement included in the title hits the nail right on the head. Sort of. Yes, this collection from 2009 features 50 tracks, but not all of them are American in origin True, they are all classics -- this compilation features some of the best-known works by Vic Damone, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, and Billie Holiday, just to name a few -- but Edith Piaf is, well, French. But, in the end, what's important about this particular collection, isn't arguing over a minor point or two, it's that these are some of the most loved and respected popular songs of the last 100 years. Just think of that Parisienne addition as a bonus.
