This Pausa LP reissue brings back a Capitol Records jam session. After the success of Session at Midnight (which featured a dozen Hollywood-based musicians jamming swing standards), a similar date was arranged on the East Coast. Once again four veteran swing songs and two basic originals are performed and the lineup of musicians is quite impressive: Trumpeters Billy Butterfield and Charlie Shavers, tenors Coleman Hawkins and Jerry Jerome, altoist Earl Warren, clarinetist Peanuts Hucko, trombonist Urbie Green and Lou McGarity, guitarist Art Ryerson, pianist Lou Stein, Milt Hinton or Arvell Shaw on bass and drummer Osie Johnson. The music is friendly but occasionally fiery with Shavers and Hawkins taking honors. Both of the Capitol jam sessions deserve to be reissued on CD.
