Def Harmonic producer Jason Todd's solo project Innerstance Beat Box constructs the kind of funky grooves that DJ Shadow or DJ Wally use with a Coldcut sense of humor through juxtaposition. The samples include all the usual suspects: French women, instructional records, and blaxploitation films. It all would be old hat if All Little Boys Do Silly Little Dances didn't sound so fresh, in every sense of the word. Todd knows how to keep a head bobbing even on the more abstract numbers. There's quite a bit of good scratching and funky jazz bass lines. "I Have a Special Camera!" is worth it alone for its Kool Keith-style crazed rap and sweet soprano sax. At just over 30 minutes, the trip is over long before you'd want.
