AllMusic Review by

This two-LP set contains a pair of very unusual Cannonball Adderley albums. The earlier set features a quartet comprised of the altoist, trumpeter Art Farmer, guitarist Barry Galbraith and bassist Milt Hinton performing John Benson Brooks's nine-part four-movement "Alabama Concerto," a major work filled with folk melodies. The remainder of this two-fer (music originally on the LP African Waltz) features Adderley accompanied by a big band for a set of concise and funky charts recorded with hopes of getting a hit single. Despite its commercial objectives, the songs (many of which are jazz standards) and arrangements hold one's interest.
