AllMusic Review by

Reinforcing the old dance music adage that nothing is truly new, some time International DJ Gigolo Terence Fixmer digs in his considerable record collection for some original electronic body music, a movement having been audaciously plundered for the style, sound and sleaze of electro-clash. Like many other rose tinted retrospectives however, a great deal of the tracks to have been plucked back from the edge of obscurity by Fixmer haven't aged as well as perhaps he would have liked. Although those wishing to dip their toes in this undeniably influential period in the development of electronic music could do far worse, with a scattering of great tracks offered up by Front 242, the Normal, and the now hard-to-find A Split Second -- whose "Flesh" has been widely accredited as having begat Belgium's seminal New Beat movement at the tail end of the '80s -- the undoing of this particular Aktion Mekanik comes from the movement's penchant for ridiculous lyrics, more often than not delivered with an equally farcical vocal inflection, which lends more of a high camp sense of things to a music originally conceived with Teutonic sobriety.
