It may come surprisingly, but the gentle underwater burbles and dub-tastic effects of Ltd. Noise's debut for Multicolor Recordings are the creation of Frankie Goes to Hollywood alum Peter Gill and Re-Flex's Paul Fishman. Fear not -- the somewhat embarrassing musical pasts of both of these men are not here to haunt them. Rather, the Ltd. Noise project represents a positive shift in the careers of these aging electronicists. Elements of jazz, funk, dub, and downtempo enter the fray with astounding results, taking listeners on a journey through electronic music's past and (presumable) future. That said, the tracks don't vary too much from one to another, but they also don't resemble too much of the state of electronica at the time of this album's release. Where other producers are just trying their best to keep up with one another, Ltd. Noise seems to have worked behind those scenes in a vacuum-like, nearly press-free chamber, churning out whatever they want. Ltd. Noise brings together their past influences in a pastiche of forms, ultimately landing them a pretty decent record. Certainly nothing to scream about but nothing to sneer at either, About 8 Minutes will definitely command more of your time than its title suggests.
