It's so easy to label a disc "Cuban music," while non-Cubans sometimes forget how vague that label can. There's pop music, folk music, and jazz emanating from that island nation as well any combination thereof. This disc features the cream of the Cuban jazz scene, including Chucho Valdez, Hernan Lopez-Nussa, Tony Perez, and Juan Manuel Ceruto, as they pay tribute to Emiliano Salvador, a talented pianist in the Afro-Cuban style, who died much too young. A fine jazz disc with overtones of folk influences, PUERO PADRE makes for an enthralling listen.
