AllMusic Review by

Don Ewell, a masterful stride pianist (and certainly one of the finest active in 1970), made many band records but was always best heard as an unaccompanied soloist. His Chiaroscuro LPs (which have not yet been reissued on CD) are among his best, including this tribute to Joe Sullivan. Ewell is in prime form throughout such numbers as "I'm Gonna Stomp Mr. Henry Lee," "Spain" and "Sunday," plus an exciting medley of "Buddy's Habit," "Carolina Shout" and Sullivan's famous "Little Rock Getaway." This gem will be difficult to locate, but is worth the search.
