AllMusic Review by

This fantastic two-fer combines two rare albums recorded live in Philly and New York that originally came out on Atlantic Records -- Saturday Night at the Uptown and Apollo Saturday Night. The list of artists performing in their prime makes this a must-buy for soul music lovers. At the Apollo, a young, shaky Otis Redding performs "These Arms of Mine" and "Pain in My Heart"; the Falcons sizzle on "Alabama Bound" and "I Found a Love"; the Crown Prince of Dance, Rufus Thomas stirs 'em up with two selections, the Coasters two, and Apollo favorite Ben E. King three. The Uptown tracks are similarly pleasing, three by the Drifters, two by Wilson Pickett, Doris Troy, and Patti Labelle & the Bluebells. Plus rare live performances by the Vibrations, the Carltons, Patti & the Emblems, and Barbara Lynn that you won't find anywhere else.
