In the collection 20 Ans de Musique Contemporaine á Metz, SWF Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden, conducted by Michael Gielen.
Composed in 1984, this orchestral work of approximately 12½-minutes duration, is a funeral chant for a deceased friend. The feeling is created of a very primitive, sparse environment and ceremony -- fluttering and tremolo sounds, extremely soft mysterious sustains, "reedy" winds with drum accents like Japanese Gagaku music, low brass bent tones like Tibetan horns. Dynamics range from fff to pppppp. This piece continues the inward search of Nono's later years, following his earlier, externalized social-reality works.
