DJ Rashad's sudden untimely death in April of 2014, just six months after the release of his triumphant Hyperdub full-length Double Cup, robbed the world of Chicago footwork's most visible figure as well as one of the artists most responsible for creatively pushing the genre into bold new directions, with his Teklife crew expanding globally and incorporating elements of drum'n'bass and acid into their frenetic, bass-heavy sound. The posthumously released EP 6613 features four tracks co-produced by longtime collaborators DJ Spinn, Gant-Man, DJ Manny, and Taso. The tracks generally have a euphoric feel, built on joyous samples from the type of soul and disco records Rashad grew up with. "Cause I Know U Feel" in particular captures an ecstatic vocal moment and loops it to rapturous effect, building bright, bubbling synth melodies around it. Only concluding track "Do Not Fuck" glimpses into footwork's paranoid side, with a tense, alien atmosphere surrounding siren wails, snapping beats, and a simple, chilling sample.
