This collaboration between Detroit's Model 500 and Berlin's 3MB resulted in one beautiful synth-filled work of techno brilliance and two somewhat jarring attempts. The standout song here is "The Cosmic Courier," a song also released on Tresor in an edited version as "Die Kosmischen Kuriere." Similar to some of Mad Mike's best techno anthems such as "Journey of the Dragons" and some of the best Red Planet tracks, "The Cosmic Courier" relies heavily on layers of synthesizer melodies and riffs to propel the song above mundane techno. In the end of the nearly ten-minute epic, the song's catchy synth riff and the modulating waves of distant synth tones remain lodged in the listener's mind like the most effective pop songs. The other two songs -- "Jazz Is the Teacher" and "Bassmental" -- don't fare as well, suffering from an overabundance of synth riffs and percussive rhythms that aren't anywhere near being harmonious, instead coming off as jarring and a bit dissonant.
