Comprised of 12 songs, most of which peaked high on the Latin Regional Mexican Airplay charts, among others, 2007 Año de Éxitos Mexicanos is a nice collection of what was popular in the country during 2006. Most of the tracks on the album are played with more traditional Mexican instruments (guitars, accordions, the occasional horn or tuba), although some (Conjunto Matador's "Te Quise Olvidar") also use modern synthesizers and drum machines. Alicia Villarreal's "Insensible a Tí (Me Pone a Mil)" (which hit number 21), Ninel Conde's "Ingrato" (number 17), Triny y la Leyenda's "Ya Reforzaron la Cerca" (number 36), Diana Reyes' "Como una Mariposa" (number 11), and Conjunto Atardecer's "Hoja en Blanco" (which hit number 33, though their "Me Estoy Enamorado" reached number 17) are all included on the album, which makes up for the lesser-known songs by Raul Sandoval, Los Originales de San Juan, and Los Nietos. All in all, an enjoyable collection of contemporary Mexican music, though whether it really does contain the biggest hits of the year is a debatable point.
