The most easily available of David Thomas Roberts' recordings (even though it was put out by a tiny label), this CD features the pianist performing 15 of his finest rags, some of which he had formerly recorded a decade earlier for the now-defunct Euphonic label. Roberts has an original style and a distinctive voice of his own that, although fitting in the ragtime idiom, leaves his music open to surprises. Among the highlights are "Kreole," "Madison Heights Girl," "Through the Bottomlands," "The Early Life of Larry Hoffer," and "Roberto Clemente." Highly recommended to ragtime collectors.
