EMI's massive five-disc collection of 101 80's Hits is about as budget as you can get without putting the thing together yourself at home. The 101 tracks are heavy on the U.K. hits, so for every international smash like "Karma Chameleon" (Culture Club) and "Walking on Sunshine" (Katrina & the Waves) there's a "Kayleigh" (Marillion and a "Good Heart" (Feargal Sharkey). That said, it's nice to hear something other than Queen's "We Will Rock You" ("I Want to Break Free" appears here), and hearing Limahl spin his "Neverending Story" next to Whitesnake is kind of fun, but these collections are a dime a dozen, and listener satisfaction depends entirely on how many cocktails have been consumed and who is in the room to share the whimsy.
