Madacy's #1 Pop Hits of the 60s & 70s, Disc 1 offers up a paltry ten songs all of which are, oddly enough, from the '50s. And all but one of which are re-recordings except for the Champs' "Tequila" and Wilbert Harrison's "Kansas City," which sounds like it was taken from a scratchy copy of the 45 being played in a wind tunnel. The rest are pretty tough to swallow re-dos of classics like the Coasters' "Yakety Yak" and Lloyd Price's "Stagger Lee." On the plus side there are two live recordings by the Everly Brothers that aren't half bad, though nowhere near as good as the originals. At least the label lets you know upfront that you are getting re-recordings. Give them credit for that before you rip them for cynically attempting to ruin people's memories of the past.
