07.04.99 is a one-sided 12" EP, the debut release from Texas' Bexar Bexar. The single, 14-minute piece consists of a field recording accompanied by light post-rockish instrumental guitar. Listeners can assume from the title and the vinyl label's design that it was recorded on the Fourth of July. Listeners hear fireworks popping, families cheering, cars passing by, and anti-theft car systems filling the night with their honks and sirens. All this agitation and joy contrasts heavily with the delicate, slightly melancholic one-chord guitar motif. This odd juxtaposition (Godspeed You Black Emperor! without the pathos) accounts for most of 07.04.99's interest. The piece is brought to its conclusion by the expected "big finale" of explosions and the crowd expressing their appreciation. This unusual EP is released in a limited-numbered edition of 330 copies.
