The Hooked on Classics series, begun in the early '80s, consisted of arrangements of classical favorites, usually orchestral, with an added, pronounced beat, giving the music a rock or disco flavor. The series was the brainchild of Louis Clark, who had been the arranger for Electric Light Orchestra, and who conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the U.K.'s most prestigious ensembles, in the arrangements. Many of the numerous Hooked on … albums became crossover best-sellers. This collection includes 30 tracks that use the work of a variety of well-known composers for source material, including Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Offenbach, Tchaikovsky, Richard Strauss, Sousa, and Richard Rodgers. The album should appeal to listeners who like classical music and also a strong rock beat.
