The fact that Platinum Disc's Disco Mania series gives the listener a very fuzzy idea about the disco era's greatness is only underlined when its three volumes are packaged together and taken as a whole. Not only are these discs cheaply packaged, but the selections are patchy at best; the third volume in particular strays bizarrely, as if the people at the label couldn't think of any more disco hits. Nonetheless, the box set version of the series might come through in an emergency. If you should happen find this at a Wyoming gas station while on a cross-country trip, it just might add some life to your drive. To be fair, there are some definite classics here (though they are in truncated single-edit form), including "Car Wash," "Rock the Boat," "Ain't No Stopping Us Now," "Lady Marmalade," and "Boogie Fever."
