Radio Plays first became popular in the early days of radio, when full plays could be acted out over the airwaves. They were embellished with sound effects and delivered melodramatically. Once television became a household staple, radio plays lost their popularity, but they continued be performed occasionally. In the '80s and '90s, classic radio plays were reissued -- and sometimes re-recorded -- for release.
