Jimmy Cliff

Time Will Tell

Song Review by

The lush pop-rock "Waterfall" may have provided Jimmy Cliff with his first taste of international success, but his Wonderful World, Beautiful People album was more mindful of the singer's roots.

Island's strategy to launch Cliff to stardom as a singer- songwriter was now paying dividends. "Time Will Tell" was a thoughtful song, as the singer ponders what the future holds. However, the number, arranged by co-producer Larry Fallon, has an optimistic air, fed by the percolating reggae rhythm and given a sweep of grandeur by the lush organ and orchestration. One of a number of classics found on this superb 1969 set, and another feather in the cap for producer Leslie Kong.
