See the Sky About to Rain

Composed by Neil Young

Song Review by

"See the Sky About to Rain" with its creepy organ and lonesome pedal steel is the most evocative track on the downbeat Neil Young album On the Beach (1974). Melodically, as well as lyrically, the verses recall the eco-terror of After the Gold Rush, delivered in Young's frail, confessional voice, with supporting characteristic, graceful, and elegiac guitar tones. The album and the song were considered a return to form following their ragged predecessor, Time Fades Away. The song dates back to sessions Young held prior to the release of his top-selling album, Harvest (1972).
