A Top Five hit in 1968, "Over You" was Gary Puckett & the Union Gap's fourth straight million-selling single, produced and written by Jerry Fuller. A "big" romantic ballad, it is indeed cut from the same cloth as the group's earlier records, such as "Young Girl." Led by Gary Puckett's romantic baritone, the vocal performance was obviously influenced by Bill Medley's style on the Righteous Brothers' hits. Although "Over You" is a formula record, it does have its merits, particularly the tasteful, ornate string arrangement by Al Capps, which embellishes the vocal without overpowering it. Available on Varese Sarabande's Sunshine Days, Volume Three, a fine singles compilation series.
