The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Song Review by

One of Jimi Hendrix's most defining songs, "Fire" is an exercise in soul, psychedelic rock, and polyrhythmic jazz-inspired drumming. One of the standouts on the debut Are You Experienced? album, the song and recording showcased the truly raw energy that the band was capable of. Set in an up-tempo soul base, the song's bass and guitar riffs are mighty and played at breakneck speed. Lyrically, the song is based around Jimi Hendrix's great rock & roll swagger, and the sexual threat in the song shines through loud and clear. Several live versions are in existence, but the March 1968 version on The Jimi Hendrix Experience box set is positively devastating.
