Music reviewers and musicians alike couldn't figure out how composer/producer Burt Bacharach did what he did. Bacharach's music went against the grain of traditional music theory, yet it sounded right and sold records. Bacharach, along with co-producer/lyricist Hal David, found their perfect creative foil in Dionne Warwick. One of the trio's classic tracks, "Anyone Who Had a Heart" is full of the rich musical whimsy and deep touching lyrical flourishes that fueled their long, creative, and commercially successful heyday. Issued on Florence Greenberg's Sceptor label, "Anyone Who Had a Heart" went to number eight R&B and received strong radio play on pop stations in late 1963. Luther Vandross, a big Warwick fan, covered the song on his 1986 LP Give Me the Reason.
