John Hardee was not with us long enough but this session shines. Rather than brash it bops with a great cast that includes Buddy Rich and Tiny Grimes. He sounds a little like an energetic Coleman Hawkins.

If you like old time New Orleans jazz then you’ll love this CD. Wyton’s playing is exceptional on all tracks and should further cement his standing as one of the best trumpet players in jazz. Most songs are short but this soundtrack is well worth it.

Jay Hawk Talk is the third studio album by trumpeter Carmell Jones. Recorded and released in 1965, it was Jones' debut on Prestige and his final album as a leader. It starts with a nice blues and goes up tempo from there. Jones, I feel, is an underrated jazz artist but this session sounds great and shows what could have been
