The Los Angeles-based band Dengue Fever has made a career of blending the sounds of various cultures into their own distinct style. Over the course of six albums, they've evolved from reinterpreting Cambodian pop songs into something more their own style, writing their own songs while still incorporating the myriad international influences that got them up and running. AllMusic editor Mark Deming gave their latest album, The Deepest Lake, four stars, noting that the band has "grown far beyond a mere world music pastiche," and praises the record for being "thoughtful, imaginative, and sensuous in all the best ways."
We have the premiere of the band's new video for the track "Cardboard Castles," which also serves to herald the announcement of a new slate of U.S. tour dates, running from July through September, with European dates to follow. You can check out their itinerary here.
